Uganda Golf Union president Amos Nzeyi will get off his second term with a bang after receiving USh100m from Serena Hotel ahead of the President’s Shield that will tee off Wednesday at the Kitante golf course.
Serena Kampala Hotel General Manager Anthony Chege said they are not only supporting Nzeyi, but anxious to see the game of golf growing. “As Serena we are coming out to give a hand not only in this President’s Shield but in many more to come,” said Chege.
Though the main competition starts Friday, the
professionals will end on Thursday and they are vying for vying for USh7m.
Deo Akope, teaching professional Sadi Atibu, Brian Toolit, Brian Mwesigwa, Emmanuel Onito Opio, Dickson Lagoro and Vincent Byamukama are some of the professionals expected to be at the apex of the leaderboard by Thursday evening.
Speaking at the launch, Nzeyi boasted in his pulling young people to the game of Golf as one of his successful achievements.
“Many young and talented golfers have been able to pull to come through, and many of them will be seen on the green once the competition starts,” said Nzeyi.
Nzeyi’s first term has seen a formidable national team formed and has gone on to compete in international events in Malawi, South Africa, Botswana and the East African Challenge Cup in Burundi.
