Uni League kyambogo KIU

It was all jubilations in Banda as Kyambogo University beat Kampala International University to go level with table leaders Nkumba at the University league standings.

Moses Guloba’s goal in the 59th minute was enough to give Kyambogo University a crucial 1-0 home win over KIU at the ITEK grounds on a Sunday evening in the University league

In the 14th minute Ismail Eedu dribbled past defender Geoffrey Akabwai shoots in to goal and forces the KIU goal keeper Hillary Ngole to make a wonderful save.

In the 20th minute KIU narrowly survived Herbert Ojulu’s ball from 20 yards which went over the cross bar due to lack of concentration and the pressure that was mounted on to him by KIU defender Bashir Babu.

A minute before the interval the home side should have taken the lead when Ismail Eedu’s defence splitting pass found Sande Tumwine on the left side, but the bulky attacker could only blast his shot over the bar with only the keeper to beat. First half ended 0-0 but Kyambogo looking more brilliant on the ball than their counter parts KIU.

Even in the second half all was the brilliance of Kyambogo, as Keith Tegule received a glorious opportunity that would have put Kyambogo a head but only to be denied by his first touch which went in to the goal keepers arms in the 53rd minute.

In the 55th minute KIU’s Stephen Magulumali took a shot from 30-yards, but his strike just went over the bar with Ramathan Adui looking well beaten.

In the 59th minute Kyambogo benefitted from some indecision from KIU keeper Hillary Ngole and his defender Bashir Babu in the clearance of the ball which dropped on the opponent Moses Guloba who made no mistake and fired up in to an empty net which took Kyambogo a head of KIU.

After a couple of minutes KIU would have been rewarded with an equalizer but Yusuf Mohammed’s slow pace couldn’t help them out as defender Tom Mugabe cleared it off his feet forcing a corner kick for KIU which never yielded results for them.

KIU tried to equalise in the dying minutes of the match, but all was in vain as the Buffaloes hung on for the full three points and this takes Kyambogo at the second of the table with seven points from four matches as they await for a tight fixture on Wednesday with table leaders Nkumba University at their grounds in ITEK.
