Motorists and cyclists will have no room on Saturday before and during the 2012 MTN Kampala marathon that will start and finish at Kololo airstrip. According to the spokesman Kampala metropolitan police Ibin Senkumbi all routes headed to the venue of the marathon will be sealed by the Police. ‘We shall use a strong force of security that is around the marathon that is at the venue and along the route,” Senkumbi said. ‘I want to assure all participants and all those that will be taking part in this event will be guaranteed maximum security.”

The 10 kilometer race will start and end at Kololo airstrip while 42 kilometer race will start at Lower Kololo terrace and finish at the airstrip. Red Cross has assembled 300 volunteers however 250 will be engaged in duty during the marathon and will be alotted on different parts of the route. Uganda Athletics Federation will use 300 marshals who will work closely with Pinnacle Security during the marathon.

This year’s theme is Run with your Heart and proceeds from the marathon will go to Bududa district for them to get Water and Safe Sanitation. The men’s and women’s winner in the 42 kilometer marathon will both get 14 million while winners in the half marathon will get 4 million each.
