The streets of Uganda’s capital, Kampala will be filled with runners as they embrace the ninth edition of the MTN Kampala Marathon on Sunday. It is one thing that brings people from different walks of life to run for a charity – with this year’s main reason to boost access to safe water in Kiryandongo resettlement camp for land slide affected communities relocated from Bududa by government.

These people’s touching will force over 16000 runners thrive and encounter challenges in the 10km, 21km and 42km races. But as we try to meet grace the roads, we ought to note a few things;

Everyone ought to know his/her goal. While many are gunning for the top prize, some look forward to finishing irrespective of the times posted.

A few want to jog and get a relief of stress from home, work and take a new fresh breath in life. So, it does not matter, run at your pace.

Occasionally, people come to run in groups like families, workmates name it. Even the smallest sibling will leave home to come and see his parent cross the finish line. But we all need to be security conscious.

The terror threats may be silent but a lot goes on under cover hence keep watchful eyes. Two parking yards at UMA Show grounds Lugogo and City High School will be used. Do not misplace your valuables for after the tiresome race, you could entirely forget about them. About 200 guards from Pinnacle Security have been hired.

Since it happens once a year, you lose nothing getting to Kololo Airstrip early enough for the event. The program sets off at 5.30am when athletes arrive.

There are specific water and sponge points for all runners at the marathon course. By 1.30pm, the roads will be opened back to other people. Every mile brings a smile, run and save a life – 2012 MTN Kampala Marathon.
