Defending champions, Deo Akope and Joseph Bogera are set to defend their titles in the 15th JBG Golf Tournament that tees off this Saturday at the par 71 Entebbe lake side greens.
Akope will face off stiff competition from 20 other professionals for the 10M Prize money while 2011 champion, Joseph Bogera will lead the charge with over 200 amateurs.
“The JBG tournament is a major event on the club calendar and it has become more popular with increasing numbers of participants and competition”, reasons Dickson Lagoro, a professional based at the Entebbe lake side club.
The mode of play will be stableford with a full handicap, but with a cut off after day one and a variety of players are expected to come from Kampala, Arua, Jinja, Toro, Kasese, Fortportal, Mbarara and the home grown products of Entebbe.
There will be a chance for the professionals, who will include two Rwandan based players Emmanuel Ruterana and Jean Baptist Hakizimana to teach golfing skills at the close of day one. “The pros will teach golf basics to the new members on Saturday”, says Lagoro. The others profeesionals expacted are; Vincent Byamukama, Saidi Atibu, Said Mawa, Amos Kamya, Grace Ocici, Geofrey Mande, Herman Mutawe, Denis Anguyo, Brian Mwesigwa, Geogre Oloya and a host of others.
There will be Prizes for the winners in the men’s category while they will be winners in group A with handicaps from 0-9 , Group B 10-18 and Group C 18-28. The ladies will be vying for accolades in group A and B.
This year’s JBG tournament shall be held under the theme “Innovative Transport Solutions for Development”
