Entebbe club’s Willy Kitata, playing off handicap plus 1 defied all the odds to claim the 15th JBG Open golf title at the par 71 Entebbe golf club on Sunday.

“This is my first major championship on my home turf. Thank you JGB for the sponsorship”, a visibly excited Kitata, who won a brand new golf kit courtesy of the German based water engineers remarked in his victory speech. Kitata beat a strong field of 144 golfers.

Uganda proffessional Golfers’ captain, Deo Akope, boycotted his honeymoon to emerge winner with a gross score of 171.

Akope, who won the 2m and dedicated the sweet victory to his fourth coming offspring. “I dedicate this victory to junior,who is in her mum’s womb”, Akope said amidst wild cheers from the lively gathering that included the German Ambassador to Uganda and Internal Affairs Minister Hilary Onek,who has started learning to play golf recently.

Other winners were; Patrick Kasango (hole in one on hole 6), Aaron Mugomola (longest drive, men), Irene Nakalembe (longest drive, ladies),Tom Katutsi (nearest to pin, men) and AnnAbeja Muhwezi (nearest to pin,ladies).
