FIDE, the world’s Chess governing body recently awarded the title of FIDE Arbiter to three Ugandans; Robert Katende, Uganda Chess Federation General Secretary Christopher Turyahabwe and President Vianney Luggya.

The award of FIDE Arbiter titles to the three Ugandans follows attendance of a seminar and successfully passing of examinations that the trio sat in Istanbul, Turkey in September 2012.

The award of titles was confirmed in a communication from Baira Marilova, an official from the Elista FIDE office in which she stated that the three FA titles “were approved by the 1st Quarter FIDE Presidential Board meeting which was held on 19-20 January 2013 in Tsakhkadzor, Armenia.”
