Incumbent Chess Federation boss, Vianney Luggya returned at the helm of the association’s presidency as he was voted unopposed by the at the 2013 elective assembly held at Lugogo last Saturday.

Luggya, from the Entebbe based Aviation Chess Club embarks on his term in office. He promised to lure more corporate sponsors into the game.

Olga Namwanje was voted in as Vice President after beating Uganda Christian University Chess Club’s Charles Nabuno. Namwanje got 23 votes against 5. She replaced former Vice President, Stephen Kisuze who was returned in a new position as Director Technical, unopposed. Christopher Turyahabwe was also re-elected as the General Secretary as Makindye Chess Club’s Augustine Lwanga was  retained as Treasurer. Caxton Kalule beat Barclays Bank’s Anthony Tumusiime with 18 votes against 7 for the position of Publicity Secretary.

The biggest contest of the day was for the position of National Coach for which Olympian Bob Bibasa beat veteran Joachim Okoth by a solitary vote with 15 for Bibasa against Okoth’s 14. Robert Katende assumed the other new position of Director Development.

Earlier in the day, the meeting deliberated on a number of issues including achievements, challenges and the future.

A Constitutional amendment to introduce two new positions of Director Technical and Director Development was passed by the highly attended General Assembly.

The Assembly also extended the Constitutional term of office from two years to four years and the above two amendments took immediate effect.

The new executive pledged commitment to developing the game further by consolidating on the achievements of the past and introducing more innovations to attract more corporate sponsorship.
