Former Uganda Cranes and Express FC striker Ali Kitonsa has been admitted at Mulago Hospital in critical condition. Kitonsa who featured for Express FC in late 1950s and 1960s has been diagnosed with cancer and has been down for close to two months at his home in Ndeeba. His condition however worsened on Wednesday 13th March and admitted at Mulago hospital and is currently on life support in ward 3B, Room 39 oxygen.

Kitonsa is considered one of the greatest players ever to feature for Express FC. He holds the un official record of most league goals in a season (54) which he scored in the 1964 league season.

Kitonsa also played for the Uganda Cranes in 1960s making his debut against Tanzania on 9th, December 1961. His most remembered games in the national team colours include the one against Zanzibar in the 1963 Gossage Cup (now Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup) in which he netted Uganda’s sixth goal in the 8-0 and in 1963 All Africa Games qualifier against Egypt in which he netted a hat trick as Uganda won 4-1 at Nakivubo.

Kitonsa also played for Egyptian giants Zamalek FC though he only did for seven months in 1963 before rejoining Express FC.

After retirement, he also coached Wandegeya FC guiding it to top flight promotion in 1981.
