Oscar Ocackon, a banker surprised a strong field of 32 pool players and a huge crowd that fanatically cheered the pre- event favorite, Simon Lubulwa with a resounding 4-2 victory in a Nile Special Qualifying final that lasted close to an hour. This was during the Rock Catalina Pub-Ntinda playing center qualifiers in the Nakawa region played on Friday night.
” I have always seen his playing style, i knew which balls to play, how and when”, Oscar, who refused to name the banking institution he works for said, of his winning strategy after the game. Lubulwa, who had won the Rock Catalina gong on two previous occasions, looked set for a hat-trick after winning the first two games. Oscar, the chairman, Rock Catalina pool club recovered to win the remaining sets as his fans cheered on.
There was controversy however as Umpire, Bob Trubish ruled in Oscar’s favour after game three. This followed Lubulwa’s suspected rowdy fans’s weird comments towards Oscar. This was indeed the game’s turning point and the 35 year old banker never looked back.
En route his winning, Oscar beat William Opit 2-0 in the round of 32, Rodgers Musinguzi 2-0 (round of 16), Jimmy Otim 3-2 in the quarterfinals before outwitting Noah Kibanda 3-1 in the semifinals.
The final results at the end of the night imply that Oscar Ocacakon and Simon Lubulwa booke themselves slots to play in the prestigious grand finale of the Nile Special Open Pool Championships, slated for August 31st at Lugogo indoor stadium.
Players, who would wish to play at each playing venue, just buy 2 Nile Special beers, register and straight away cue into action. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. The Center winner takes homes Ug.Shs 100,000, on top of a Nile Special branded medal while the runners up pockets Ug. Shs. 50,000.
All participating players get a Nile Special Certificate. The grand winner will receive a Toyota progress, Ug.shs 2M, a brand new pool table and will become the Nile Special Pool Ambassador for one year.
Alfred ‘Black Sheep’ is the event defending Champion. This annual tourney is organized by Pool Association of Uganda and it is exclusively sponsored by Nile Breweries, under the Brand, Nile Special lager,-the champion beer, for champion men.
Nakawa region action resumes on Saturday at three playing centers in Bwwyogerere (at Pride Pub), Chez Moi (in Kamwokya) and at Victoria Pub in Kireka.
