Belarus is expected to enter two teams for the FIVB Kampala Open slated to tip-off from September 24-29 at UMA Show ground.

The Former Soviet state picked forms from the local organisers House of Talent indicating that they will be entering a team of two for this international tournament.

Previously, confirmed teams included Uganda, Brazil, USA, Italy, South Africa, China, Argentina, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Russia, Germany, England, India, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Mozambique, Kenya, Rwanda, Namibia, Nigeria, Angola and Algeria.

“Many more teams are picking up registration forms for the Kampala Open and we will most probably end up with a very large number of teams into this first ever African leg of the FIVB Beach Volleyball Open,” Eddie Okila, the promoter of the Kampala Open said.

“This is very good news for volleyball in Uganda but also big news for our economy. We may see a large number of sports tourists coming into the country so I urge all businessmen to prepare to rake in some dollars.”

Meanwhile the local organisers of the event House of Talent recently received a consignment of 80 Mikasa balls and perimeter flags.

The balls are a special type of ball designed by Mikasa to resist sudden gushes in wind and thus making the balls more stable.

This also means that the balls are easier to play with and will not cause any unfairness to the players.

This consignment comes in the heels of last week’s acquisition of 80% of the sand required for the event.

“As we speak, we have almost all the sand we need for the event here in Kampala and now the balls and flags too have arrived.” Okila added.
