Ronald Musagala will be pleased with a semifinal finish in the 800m at the on-going IAAF World Athletics Championships. The 20-year bowed out of the event after taking fifth position in heat three of the two-lap race on Sunday evening.
He clocked 1:45.87 finishing behind Polish Adam Kszczot, failing to make the final.
The top two Djibouti’s Ayanleh Souleman and American Nick Symmonds clocked 1:44.99 and 1:45.00 to qualify for the final due Tuesday evening. Musagala will take one of the seats in the Luzhniki Stadium and watch the event that misses world record holder Kenyan David Rudisha.
The Kampala University, like in the preliminary heat, took the lead in the first half of the race for 51.47 but his legs wilted, puffed in vain before eventually succumbing to fall four positions down
Nonetheless, Musagala, who was never a medal prospect, put up a commendable performance. By the next Championships in Beijing 2015, he ought to have improved under better facilities and with his courage, the Kamuli-born can make the final.
