Ever since parting ways with Ethiopian club, St. George last year, Uganda Cranes striker Robert Ssentongo has not featured for any club due to unsolved disputes between the player and his former pay masters.
As you read this, the world’s football body, FIFA has saved the players’ plight and authorized for his immediate registration though on a provisional basis.
“FIFA has authorized FUFA to provisionally register Ssentongo with URA,” an official statement on the club’s website reads.
Ssentongo joined St. George from URA FC in a deal worth $ 50,000 including a down payment of $ 15000 and a compensation cost of USD35000 as compensation in case of any breach.
Ssentongo alleged that St. George had not paid him salary for two months when he left the club just months after being hired.
“We are glad that FIFA has finally cleared Ssentongo. We shall definitely start using him as soon as the reggistration process is finalised,” URA FC chairman Ali Ssekatawa told urafc.com.
Although it remains to be seen whether Ssentongo will be compensated after St. George had disowned him, FIFA has given him a greenlight to feature for URA FC.
Last month, Ssentongo had also lodged an official claim against St. George before the Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) for an alleged breach of contract.
FUFA Competitions official, Ali Mwebe says the Ugandan Federation will immediately issue Ssentongo with a playing licence since URA had reserved two pending slots to be filled.
