The Uganda Rugby lady cranes team emerged bowl title winners in the 2014 Confederation of Africa Rugby Women’s Africa Cup Sevens despite finishing 5th out of the 8 teams that took part on Saturday at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Kenya.
The lady cranes kicked off their campaign with a 45-00 drubbing of Namibia in the first Pool B match, but later lost 10-5 and 14-07 against Zimbabwe and Tunisia in the same pool respectively.
The team took to the bowl semis after their first encounters, beating senegal 24-10 for a bowl final meet with Madagascar who thrashed Namibia 40-00 in the same semi finals.
The lady cranes finally closed out their CAR7s journey 5th, beating Madagascar 5-10 to win the Bowl title.
However, team Uganda revealed on their twitter account that it wasn’t the result wanted, promising to do lots of work to improve.
“Thanks everyone for your support.” “Not the result wanted but was the result deserved.” “All stake holders have lots of work to do now.”
South Africa successfully defended the main title after beating hosts Kenya 15-00 in the final. The two sides had earlier met in a Pool A encounter, South Africa emerging 21-12 winners.
