National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has on Wednesday unveiled a Ug.Shs 60 M sponsorship package to run the national volleyball league and the national teams.
The package announced at the company’s head offices at Workers’ House will run for 3 years.
The league has been thus renamed the NSSF National Volleyball League.
“Volleyball is one sport that involves vulnerable groups in society – minorities and the disadvantaged. Associating with Uganda Volleyball Federation to sponsor the league is a great platform to pay back to the society and sports development in general “, NSSF Ag. Managing Director, Geraldine Ssali.
The sponsorship covers the elite Volleyball leagues – Serie A, women and the national teams.
Break down of Ug.shs 60 M:
The league sponsorship will cater for technical equipment, officiating, teams and referees’ jerseys, hire of stadia and the league publicity.
The national team package will cover the players’ and coaches’ facilitation. Team jerseys, track suits, training and publicity.
Momentous:
Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) President, Sadiq Nasiwu tagged the day momentous in the history of Volleyball in the country.
“This is a great start. Surely it is a new start of life. We appreciate NSSF but still there urge to have other stake holders to help the game grow”.
Accountability:
Ssali has urged all the stake holders to be accountable to every money received.
“We urge our partners to make great use of every penny. NSSF is a public entity that requires transparency and accountable people”, Ssali remarked.
The national team captains, Sheliah Omuriwe (women) and George Aporu (men) attended the brief event.
“We believe as players, this is a great gesture for the sponsorship from NSSF and hopefully, better and best things are well ahead of us”. Aporu said.
NSSF has over the past 6 years been strongly attached to Volleyball with annual monetary and logistical aid to run NSSF International Volleyball tournament.
The national volleyball league is set to kick off this weekend.
