The third and final national boxing trials competition ahead of the July Glasgow Commonwealth games is scheduled to take place on Saturday 26th-April at the MTN Arena in Lugogo, Kampala.
The competition will see twenty-two boxers fight in their respective weights before the watchful eyes of national team head coach, Dick Katende.
Coach Katende is not only responsible to trim the team to 10 boxers (in response to the ten available slots for Commonwealth games) but is also liable for selecting the Bombers’ team ahead of upcoming international events.
According to the Saturday’s program, Joseph Kalema of Cobab Boxing Club in the red corner will first see off Fazil Juma Kagwa of East Africa Boxing Club (ECBC) in the Light weight category of 49 kilograms. Thereafter, UDPF’s Aldina Muzei will take on Bashir Nasir of EABC in Bantam weight of 56 kilograms. The latter beat Geoffrey Kakeeto 2-1 in the second trials’ competition held recently.
In other fights, Kassim Muhammad from ECBC will be up against Rogers Semitala of Cobab BC in the Fly weight group of 52 kilograms.
In the 64 kilograms Light weight category, Bob Moses Asiya of ECBC who won Police’s Raymond Musisha in the second trials editions will bounce back to take on UPDF’s Abdul Hassan. The soldier also won his last fight against Moses Mukiibi with a spit decision.
Sakku Boxing Club representative, Tony Mukiibi will set from the red corner to take on KCCA’s Musa Mugisha in the 64 kilograms Light welters group, as Nassur Bukenya (UPDF BC) prepares to fight Hamis Semakula (ECBC) in 69 kilograms Welter weight category.
Other fights will see Tony Sekabira of UPDF fight KCCA’s Wiy Kyakonye in Heavy weight category, while, Hassan Taban of ECBC faces Mike Sekabemb from UPDF boxing Club.
In the women category, Diana Atwine (UPDF) will be up against her namesake, Diana Tulyanabo who represents KCCA boxing Club.
