The Uganda Boxing Federation(UBF) is in hunt for support for the national team ‘the Bombers’ ahead of the July Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Gaborone 2014 Africa Youth Championships scheduled for May.
“We call upon support in terms of finance, logistics, food, water and training kits.” Fred Kavuma the UBF’s pro told Kawowo Sports at one of the Bombers’ training sessions at Lugogo.
“We welcome any kind of sponsorship from government, companies, indivduals like ex-national boxers and well wishers to enable us adequately prepare our boxers for upcoming major international events”. Kavuma added.
Fifteen boxers are to be selected soon to represent the pearl of Africa in the May Gaborone Africa Youth games in Botswana and the July Commonwealth games in Scotland respectively.
Over 100 boxers have gone through three trial competitions, from which trials national headcoach Dick Katende has to select the most suitable players, to take part in the above mentioned competitions.
