Ahead of the Nile Special national open pool championships, arguably now one of the most attended national sports tournament in the country, the Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) on 1st May 2014 conducted a day long educational workshop for the country coordinators and pool umpires at Jacakaranda hotel in Wakaliga, Kampala.

“The main purpose of the workshop was basically to fine tune the umpires and regional coordinators about the rules and ethics of the game of pool”, PAU, tournament secretary, Robert ‘Pipol’ Kayanja remarked.

About 45 officials attended the educative workshop that included theory and practical sessions.

The participants also held brain storming sessions aimed at helping them get well abreast of the different pool game situations that could be tricky to explain to ordinary players.

Kayanja urged the umpires and coordinators to live an exemplary life style worth admirable by the entire public and to the pool fraternity.

“As pool players, you are held accountable for your appearence in public, dress code, conduct and good mannerism”, Kayanja added.

Chairman of the Uganda Pool Umpires’ Guild, Ismail Kalibala called for harmony and application of learnt skills to help the game grow.

The Pool national open started officially on labour day and will climax with the grand finale on 30th August 2014 with 128 players at the MTN lugogo indoor arena.
