NETBALL WORLD CUP QUALIFIER RESULT: Uganda 43-42 Zimbabwe
The Uganda netball team secured a second win in the ongoing Netball World Cup qualification championship in Gaborone Botswana. Uganda on Monday dispatched Zambia 52-45 in their first match.
The She Cranes defeated Zimbabwe 43-42 in a tight game played on Tuesday morning at Bona Arena.
Resilient Zimbabwe who turned down Uganda’s first quarter 12-10 lead netted 12 times against 11 to settle in the driving seat at half time with a 22-21 score.
After recess Captain Peace Proscovia, Amono Florence and Nakiwu Annet played a great role to help Uganda regain leadership in the 3rd quarter, hence led the game 32-31.
The Cranes eventually emerged winners of the tight match with a goal margin, after it ended in a 43-42 score.
Uganda will play hosts Botswana tomorrow, Swaziland on Thursday before ending the tourney against Namibia.
The championship was changed to be played on a round robin format after Kenya and Lesotho failed to turn up. Six teams [Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Swaziland and hosts Botswana] are taking part in this week-long tourney which begun Sunday and its top two finalists will join South Africa and Malawi to represent Africa in Next year’s World Cup.
