Following the shocking and untimely death of Simba SC player Fahad Musana, the Uganda Premier League has called off the game between Soana FC and Simba SC.
Soana FC was due to host the army side at Kavumba Recreation ground on Tuesday September 23 as one of the four fixtures but the game has now been rescheduled for Wednesday October 8.
Musana passed away on Sunday with reports indicating he collapsed in the video hall when Manchester City’s Frank Lampard scored an equaliser for his club against Chelsea FC, a team Musana staunchly supported.
The UPL says the rescheduling of the game is in accordance with article 25 section 2 (b) of the FUFA Rules which states; (25) “When death of a registered club player(s) or a registered club official(s) occurs; 25 (2b) If death occurs more than 48 hours to the scheduled kick-off time and burial is not on the date of the match, the match shall be played as scheduled.”
The UPL secretariat has also reminded clubs involved in this week’s matches to observe a minute of silence and wear black armbands as way of mourning as stipulated in article 25 section 2 (a) states: “All players in matches organised and sanctioned by FUFA in that week shall wear black arm bands and may observe a minute of silence before kick-off.”
