Vipers Sports Club have played 12 matches of the 2014/2015 season without a striker and have scored a total of 18 goals.

Their goals coming from all over the place, predominantly the midfield.

Inconsistent and unfit Mike Mutyaba and Sadam Juma are their leading scorers with three apiece, Kizito Keziron, Vincent Kayizi, Miya Farouk, Allan Kyambadde are some of the other scorers.

Defenders Ismael Kazibwe and Musa Malunda have also come to the party when the midfielders have struggled.

You don’t expect Vipers’ midfielders to score goals freely against organized defenses in the league.

And the defensive partnership of Bob Kasozi and Henry Katongole together with fullbacks Shapic Bakaki and Ivan Sserukuma put Vipers’ scoring options to the test.

The game at Wankulukuku had so many goal scoring opportunities but ended in a barren draw.

I was left wishing ‘if only Vipers had a natural lethal goal poacher playing for them.’

Against Express, Skipper Joseph Mpande, Siraje Ssentamu, Kyambade, Juma, Kayizzi, Miya all started but struggled in front of goal.

So many chances were created by Vipers against Express but only one shot on target from Miya midway the first half.

Moments later Edward Golola introduced Daniel Oyirowoth (a striker) who came on for Juma, held onto the ball with command and involved teammates very well.

He created space for himself, took on defenders and wasn’t scared to run into spaces to ask for the ball.

If Oyirowoth had started the game with the crosses right full back Nicholas Wadada was swinging in, maybe he would have done a difference.

Oyirowoth has the size and height to intimidate any back line in the league right now.

It’s high time Golola and Richard Waswa considered giving the young star more playing time since he is the only natural and fit striker at the club currently.
