Probably not the start to the year that Badminton player Shamim Bangi was anticipating, but picking herself up after a devastating outing in Europe is next on the agenda.

Last week Bangi lost her third straight match at the Iceland International to Kerri Scott 2-0 (21-17, 21-11) taking her record to 46 wins and 37 loses.

“A number of lessons have been picked along the away,” Bangi told Kawowo Sports.

It has been tough for me since the Estonian outing, but am optimistic about being a much better player moving forward,

In Estonia, Bangi lost to Belgian Flore Vandenhoucke and to Sashina Vignes Waran seven days later at the Swedish Masters in the first round on both occasions.

Despite the defeats, Bangi has seen her world ranking improve slightly and she now stands at 109th and third on the African continent.

I would have loved to garner points that would push me into the top 100, but it didn’t happen. Though I will continue to work hard because it’s the only thing that will get me there.

Bangi is trying to become the first female badminton player from Uganda to play at the Olympic Games.

She can only achieve that by being Africa’s number one or being ranked among the best 100 players in the world.
