It is a fact that the just concluded National Boxing Open at Lugogo last week left an odd after taste in the Boxing fraternity.

The week long tourney saw ten boxers crowned champions in different weights. They are now up to national team task as they left on Friday night by road for Dar-es-Salaam to take part in the Nyerere Memorial tournament starting 23rd March.

2014 Common Wealth medalists Fazil Juma and National Team skipper, Mike Ssekabembe are among the notable figures that made the trip whose expenses were catered for by the Uganda Olympic Committee.

Even though the team has underwent only three days non-residential training prior to the set-off, head coach Dick Katende is still optimistic that his team can still perform better.

“I think we have utilised the small time we have met with the team. We have visited the gym efficiently and i think the Bombers can put up good fights in the tournament.” the national team coach told journalists as the team was flagged off  at Lugogo on Friday

The tournament is organised in honour of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, Tanzania’s founding president and will attract several clubs and national teams across Africa.

Full list of Boxers that made the trip:

Fazil Juma (Light Fly), Hassan Abdu (Light Weight), Shadir Musa (Light Welter), Bastia Tabu (Middle Weight), Bryan Ssekyejwe (Bantam), Nasser Bukenya (Welter weight), Charles Komakech (Heavy Weight), Badru Nyombi (Light Heavy), Mike Ssekabembe (Super Heavy)
