On September 18, 2014 the She Cranes qualified for their first world cup since 1979, and their second overall.

Today is exactly 86 days to the Sydney-Australia showpiece and Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) is struggling to raise Shs1.8b to make the campaign a success.

UNF general secretary Annet Kisomose revealed to kawowo sports that apart from well-wishers and a few companies, they are still waiting on government to save the situation.

As we speak, government has never given us anything. We are relying of offers from companies and individuals’ donations to run the team’s preparations and pay a few payments.

The air tickets and accommodation for a contingent of 23 are yet to be secured, something that has put the trip in a state of uncertainty.

When we first inquired about the tickets last year, they were to cost us $2850 (about Shs8.55m) per head, now they valued at $3345 (Shs10.035m), we don’t know how much they will cost when we get the money.

UNF was meant to pay officiation fees of $5,000 (about Shs15m) before April 30, a deadline they failed to beat.

Because the team has not had any serious games since they qualified for Australia last year, they want to play at the Diamond Challenge in South Africa from June 12-21.

Then play in another tournament in Namibia from June 27-July 2, two tournaments where all Africa’s representatives at the world cup will be.

“All those trips will coast money, we are looking at $80,000 (Shs240m) for just those two and we are just hoping that we will get it.”
