The last time Sharif ‘The Lion’ Bogere stepped into the ring with an injury, he lost his first professional bout and the WBA World lightweight title to Richard Abril on March 2, 2015.

Bogere spent close to year nursing the Achilles injury and only returned to the ring on April 26, 2014 to knock out Arturo Urena in the sixth round.

The 2010 Outstanding Young Male boxer of the year is currently suffering from a right calf injury, according to his coach Kenny Adams.

And because of that the July 11 fight against Michael Angelo “The Artist” Perez in Los Angeles has been called off.

He (Bogere) has had his right calf injured for 4 weeks now it’s related to heavy lifting and running. Initially we thought he would have healed by the fight date but it is not the case

Adam told a local newspaper Daily Monitor, before confessing that Bogere’s healing period is unknown.

We are not sure when the injury will heal; the doctor advised us to have him rest for two weeks without engaging in any exercise or workout. There is no way I can send my boxer in a ring after he has been out of training for two weeks

The 26 year old lightweight boxer is also currently fasting something that has made Bogere not follow the proper diet which coulkd quicken his healing process.

Bogere is not following the diet prescribed by the doctor. He was told to drink a lot, five times a day in addition to eating vegetables. But he is fasting and this too is affecting his recovery period

Bogere made his professional debut as a 19-year old knocking-out Ed Lee Humes after 69 seconds and his record stands at 27 wins (19KOs) and just one loss.

Perez’s stands at 22wins (10KOs), one lose and two draws, and there chances that if Bogere went into the fight and won his next fight would be for the vacant WBO lightweight title.
