Uganda She Cranes suffered yet another loss at the ongoing Netball World Cup in Sydney, Australia.
The She Cranes lost to African rivals South Africa 50-40 at Netball Central.
Meeting for the first time at the World Cup, South Africa edged the first quarter 13-11 and went into half time leading Uganda 24-20, thanks to stellar shooting from GS Lenize Potgieter who connected 18 of 19 attempts in the half. GA Maryka Holtzhausen complemented with 6 goals.
On the other hand, Uganda’s shooter Peace Proscovia yet again struggled to get her grip on the game as she was shut by the Proteas’ Goal Keeper Phumza Maweni. GA Racheal Nanyonga shone in the opening half. Proscovia scored 8 goals in the half while Nanyonga had 12.
South Africa opened the third quarter with four unanswered goals and never looked back as Uganda struggled to get the ball in the circle. The Ugandans narrowed South Africa’s lead to four but closed the third leading by five
South Africa’s five goal blitz at the start of the fourth quarter sealed the win for South Africa who will play Malawi for the fifth place.
Meanwhile Uganda She Cranes will face their preliminary group leaders Wales who lost to Malawi for the seventh place.
