Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has voted Woodball player, Lillian Zawedde as the Nile Special / UPSA best sports personality for the month of February 2016.

This was during the sports body’s monthly assembly held at Scarlet Hall, Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala on Monday.

Zawedde was recognized for winning a bronze medal at the 9th edition of the Korea International Woodball championship.

She finished behind Vietnam’s Can Thi Giaaict with 204 strokes in 48 gates.

For the feat, Zawedde’s global ranking improved for the better and she is now ranked 7th in the world.

Zawedde, Africa’s best lady Woodball player tallied 460 points, beating off competition from Badminton player Shamim Bangi (350), Uganda Badminton team (330) and Sports Club Villa (320).

USPA president, Sabiti Muwanga congratulated the winner and maintained the spirit of rewarding the excelling sports personalities that has existed time immemorial will be carried on.

We reward the best to encourage many more others strive and work within their means. USPA is glad to be associated in this noble cause and it will not end.

Zawedde will be crowned at a monthly dinner on a date yet to be confirmed where she will walk away with a plaque and Shs 500,000 courtesy of the sponsor.

Commendations:

USPA members commended a number of sports personalities and teams for the outstanding performances in the previous month.

Athlete, Phillip Kipyeko defended his National Cross Country Championship title winning the 10km race in Jinja in 29 minutes, 17 seconds.

Meanwhile, Stella Chesang claimed her first senior women’s title at the National Cross Country Championship in Jinja.

Stephen Kiprotich was commended for finishing 4th in the Tokyo marathon clocking 2:07:46 in a race won by Ethiopia’s Feyisa Lilesa in 2:06:55. 

Motor-mouthed kick boxer, Moses ‘Of Uganda’ Golola was singled out for defeating Titus Tugume to retain the East and Central Africa super middleweight kickboxing title.

Also, Betway Kobs, who beat their bitter rivals Hima Cement Heathens 28-27 to cap a successful month that saw them end round one of the Nile Special Rugby Premiership on top.

At the same assembly, FUFA Competitions Director and one of Africa’s Beach Soccer instructors, Ali Mwebe took the members through the laws and regulations of Beach Soccer.
