Men’s fly 52 kg boxing Rio 2016

Uganda’s Ronald Serugo vs Armenia’s Narek Abgaryan at 11:45pm Today

Ugandan amateur boxer Ronald Serugo will be back to the ropes on the World stage as he seeks a medal at the Rio Olympics against Armenian Narek Abgaryan in the Men’s fly 52.

Serugo will walk into the ring with sight put on the semi finals if he downs his opponent in this – round of 32. He is not new to such competitions however.

He qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in the junior flyweight division where he defeated Tresford Kaziwa, then lost to Redouane Bouchtouk 0:11 before winning the third spot by defeating South African Lobogang Pilane.

Serugo also won bronze medal in the All Africa Games 2011, later Gold at the Tammer international tournament in fly weight category 2011 in Finland.

Opponent Narek conquered an Olympic qualification during the Qualification Tournament in Samsun Turkey and will be a force to reckon with. His performance routine involves picking inspiration from freedom fighters.

“I don’t usually do the same thing. For instance, I watch videos about our freedom fighters before performing in Azerbaijan and Turkey, I watch them going into battle singing,” he told sport.mediamax.am.

“It inspires me so much I get goosbumps. I listened to patriotic songs, we even sang them together with other boxers and got into the right mood.”
