Airtel Rising Stars 2016: Semi-finals Boys (25th September)

The Buganda region Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) U-17 boys and girls qualifiers will climax in Mubende district on Sunday.
So far, it has been a great plat form for teams from the Buganda regions to showcase talent. The three day tournament started on Friday with the preliminary stage matches of both genders.
Under the boys’ catergory, Mukono Bishops Secondary school, Mubende Select, Wakiso Hill and Mityana Soccer Academy are the four boy’s teams at the semi-finals of the 2016 Airtel Rising Stars.
The quartet were the successful team following good performance in the group stages.
Mukono Bishops will now face Mubende Select as Wakiso Hill takes on Mityana Soccer Academy to decide who progresses to the finals that will be played at St Peters Technical Secondary Play ground.
Mukono Bishops topped group A with 10 points out of the possible 12 with Mityana Soccer Academy finishing as first runners up.
In group B, Wakiso Hill topped with the maximum points and Mubende Select required the mercy of Lyantonde S.S who edged Nakaseke International 1-0 in the last group match.
For the girls, only five teams took part and a round robin system of play was adapted with the two best teams qualifying for the finals.
Excelling players:
For any given tournament, there are players who stand above the ordinary.For the group stages, Mityana Soccer Academy had Lawrence Serute, George Kaddu and Nasif Namungu.
Mukono Bishops’ Emmanuel Lozio Junior, Wakiso Hills’ Masudi Kafumbe and Moses Bakabulindi were also outstanding.
Watoto Boys has Emmanuel Ssemwogere, Bosco Wamunya and Julius Lubega with Cleophas Baguma of Mubende Select shinning too.
There have been a few girls with amazing talent that only require regular training and polishing.
Some of these are Fauziah Najjemba, Maureen Nangonzi and Elizabeth Abihire of Mukono High School.
Madrine Nazzinga of Pro Talent is another player worthy a second look.
Prizes:
The winner per gender will bag 1M, gold medals as the first runners up takes silver and Ug.shs 500,000. Top scorers and Most Valuable Players (MVP’s) are also rewarded with different prizes.
The Airtel Rising Stars U-17 football project is played by boys and girls under the age of 17 across the country starting with the regional qualifiers.
The tournament has been played for six seasons now.
The 2016 grand finals will be held in Lira district.
