Vipers have sacked coach Abdallah Mubiru after just 136 days in charge of the Uganda Premier League side.

Vipers are 5th on the premier league log after a 2-1 loss against SC Villa on Saturday, their second defeat in as many games.

The former Proline and KCCA tactician was in charge of the venoms for 14 competitive games, lost 4, won 5 and drawn as many.

The soft spoken tactician, who signed a three year deal at the club on July 18 replacing George ‘Best’ Nsimbe who was henceforth demoted to be his assistant leaves with immediate effect alongside John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda who has been one of his assistants.

Kawowo Sports couldn’t establish whether the entire technical staff has been laid off but Stephen Kiggundu and Richard Wasswa may remain in charge with the first round of the league drawing closer with Nsimbe also feared sacked.

Since winning the league title in 2014/15, Vipers have had three head coaches in Edward Golola, Nsimbe and now Mubiru.

The coach confirmed the news of his departure. Mubiru said: “It’s true, I have gotten the letter but that’s the nature of our job. I have done everything right in my capacity as coach but sometimes, results failed to match the work.”

In a statement released by the club and signed by club chairman, George William Mulindwa, the club confirmed the development as well.

Part of the statement read;

The management of Vipers Sports Club hereby notifies the Vipers family that we have terminated the services of the club’s coaching staff namely; Mr. George Nsimbe, Mubiru Abdallah and Luyinda John with immediate effect…

Management would like to thanks its former coaching staff for the services rendered as remain ONE TEAM, ONE DREAM.

Analysis: It was never the same old Vipers

I feel sorry for Mubiru for he is one of the coaches I rate highly in this country. He is a top coach but he didn’t get much time which is characteristic at any big club if results don’t come.

True, the results haven’t been great and it was inevitable to keep his job after the late winner by SC Villa in the face of club supremo, Lawrence Mulindwa.

Vipers of this season haven’t been same of the previous season as they have struggled in front of goal and also conceded at will as statistics show in the league – 15 against 10 in goals for and against column respectively.

But it all started in the pre-season as their recruitment policy still let them down.

The club splashed millions on the unproven Musa Esenu to solve the goal scoring conundrum and he has yet to get his game A while the experienced Tony Odur has been affected by injuries.

Only Hassan Wasswa Mawanda has done enough of the experienced recruits with youngsters Brian Kakaire, Bashir Mutanda and the like failing to hit top form.

Besides, there are reports of sabotage from within as some members within the hierarchy of the club weren’t impressed with Mubiru’s appointment and have since fought him.

It’s also believed that some players invisibly rebelled and never gave 100% in matches which saw them lose points without a fight.
