The 2016 Africa Rally champion Don Smith will finally debut his Subaru Impreza GVB 18 as the Safari Rally revs off this Friday in Nairobi, Kenya.
Smith acquired the Subaru mid last year, but he was yet to give it a ride.
“We are trying out the new car for the first time with Safari Rally.
“We shall have no target but to enjoy ourselves,” said Bob Kaugi, Smith’s co-driver.
The Fly Sax Rally Team last year faced criticism over their ARC title with their strategy to the race. They however look forward to another challenge.
“We had a target last year that called for a strategy which paid off well. So this time we shall push a bit harder.”
“But we might not be able to defend the ARC title but just certainly we hope to have fun,” Kaugi added.”
Meanwhile, the GVB 18 will debut in Safari Rally as the first of the kind in the region.
Earlier versions of the car have been owned by Tapio Laukkanen and Tanzania’s Dhani brothers.
