KCCA’s 100 percent start to life on the astro turf at the Phillip Omondi stadium, Lugogo came to an end after drawing 1-1 with Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the CAF Champions League.

Anthony Laffor goal on the 80th minute that cancelled out a first half lead got by the hosts through danger man Geoffrey Sserunkuma was the reason for the halted record.

Two days to the game, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane had warned the hosts of how his club won away in Zamalek and ES Sentif despite their impregnable records but later said they don’t need to beat KCCA at Lugogo.

Indeed, it came to pass as they failed to beat the Ugandan champions but also ejected them out of the continental lucrative competition and also ended their perfect record.

“We are not here to beat KCCA but all we need is a result that can take us through,” he told Kawowo Sports on Thursday. “Even a draw will be enough for us to get our desire but thanks for a good insight on their record,” Mosimane smiled.

Before the game against the African champions, Mike Mutebi’s charges had played 13 games at the turf in all competitions and won all including the CAF Champions League tie against Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto.

Besides the one continental tie, 9 are league games, 2 Uganda Cup and 1, an international friendly against Kenya’s Tusker FC.

Overall, the Kasasiro have scored a record 40 goals, conceded 9 and kept 7 clean sheets if the match against Sundowns is included.

They scored the most goals (7), against Onduparaka in the league and the teams to concede the least are The Saints, Primeiro de Agosto and Mamelodi Sundowns (1).

Only SC Villa, Tusker, Proline, Koboko Rising Stars, Express and Sundowns have left the turf with at least a goal and only Tusker and Proline have scored more than once.
