Ugandan internationals Robert Odongkara and Yasser Mugerwa will play in the 2017 Total CAF Champions League after helping Ethiopia’s St. George reach the stage.

St. George beat Congo Brazzaville’s Leopards 2-0 in Addis Ababa to go through 3-0 on aggregate as they had won the first leg 1-0 away from home seven days ago.

On Sunday, at a full to capacity Addis Abeba stadium, 28-year-old Ethiopian forward Salahdin Said was the hero as he scored both goals for the home side.

The forward struck in the 17th minute to put the Ethiopian side in the lead and put the icing on the cake with a second in the second minute of added time in the second half.

With Mugerwa and Odongkara qualifying for the biggest stages in African club football, the number of Ugandans so far to have assurance of playing in the CAF Champions League this season are four – Denis Onyango (Sundowns) and Jamal Salim (El Merriekh) are the others.
