For Ronnie Kaasewu, 2016 is a year he would wish to forget fast in his basketball career.

Under coach Sam Obol, the guard barely played basketball as Syrus Kiviiri and Mark Opio got the bigger share of minutes on the floor ahead of him.

This coming season though, it will be up to Kasewu to decide whether he wants to play or not, but Ronnie Mutebi, the new head coach, is ready to give him more playing time than he got last year.

“I want him to be my starting point guard once he works on his fitness issues,” Mutebi told Kawowo Sports after the UCU Invitational tournament on Sunday.

Arguably the best point guard at the club, Kasewu’s lack of time on the floor was mainly put on the fact that he didn’t train that much the previous season and this made Obol’s decision to leave him on the bench most of the time valid.

“He didn’t train enough last season and his game went down,” Mutebi, who was Obol’s assistant at the time, revealed.

“He will recover and be the player we know him to be,” Mutebi hopes.

Warriors will be hoping for better fortunes when the season tips off later this month having bowed out at the quarter final stage last season.

The side has assembled a team that is expected to put up a strong challenge for this year’s league title.

Despite the loss to UCU in the finals of the UCU tournament over the weekend, Mutebi believes the team has every reason to challenge for the title when the season starts.

Mutebi will be assisted by veteran Steven Okias, who was also frustrated with lack of playing time under Obol.

In a bid to compete with the best- City Oilers, Warriors had to go the extra mile in their recruitment, and they did.

Ivan Enabu, Marial Anyuit, Eric Malinga and Nigerian Ahmed Temitope have all been released while the team welcomes former Falcons player Mike Bazangu, Said Amisi, Aaron Ajjo, Daniel Gaaki and Development league wonder boy Stanley Mugerwa.
