For the very first time, Uganda held the Dragon Boat Festival on Lake Victoria at the Uganda Wildlife Education center.

Hundreds of high profile guests and boat fans turned up to grace the day long event that also attracted ordinary supporters, politicians and musicians alike.

As early as 8 a.m, fans had already stationed themselves ready for the show piece that was organized by Entebbe Municipality in conjunction with the China Africa Friendship Association Uganda (CAFAU).

Mayuge team were declared champions out of the over 15 participating clubs after the event that drew a capacity gathering.

High profile guests:

The second highest ranking citizen of the country, the vice president of Uganda Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Minister of state for Tourism Hon. Kiwanda Ssubi, Uganda’s Ambassador to China Hon. Crispus Kiyonga, Chinese Ambassador to Uganda, Mayor Vincent Kayanja DePaul, Entebbe member of parliament, Rose Tumusiime, officials from the Chinese mission in Uganda and Chinese Community in Uganda are some of the high profile guests.

Self-styled father of kick boxing in Uganda, Moses ‘Of Uganda’ Golola represented the list of sporting icons.

The entertainment fraternity was also not left out of the box.

Musicians as Eddy Kenzo, Rema Namakula, Phina Masanyalaze, Rockie’s Troupe and several artistes from the Golden Band spiced up the day after the Dragon Boat racing Competitions.

The host mayor, Kayanja thanked the Chinese community for the efforts of holding the event.

“I want to thank our brothers from China, the Government of Uganda, boat riders, sponsors and the fans. This event would not have been a success without the effort of any of these,” Kayanja stated.

Vice President Ssekandi who was Chief Guest officially declared the Dragon Boat Festival an annual event.
