Salomon Kalou has revealed he plans to come out of retirement, to aid his home country Ivory Coast in the upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Gabon, Mali and Morocco.
The 31-year-old Hertha Berlin player believes he can change something for the nation and recently almost came back, only to opt for a full summer break ahead of his club’s 2017-2018 Europa League campaign.
“The World Cup is very important for Ivory Coast, and it would be tragic if we were to miss it,” Kalou told Berlin-based B.Z.
“The team needs experienced players for the next challenges. I am happy to help. But only if I am fit enough, only then it makes sense.”
Ivory Coast leads Group C of the African qualifiers with four points after two match days.
