Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has extended the interim term for Uganda Cranes technical team.

Head coach Moses Basena, goalkeeping coach Fred Kajoba as well as the assistants Mathias Lule and Ibrahim Ssekajja will carry on their respective tasks through the World Cup qualifiers.

The decision was done by the FUFA Executive Committee during their 15th meeting held on Tuesday, 19th September 2017.

The FUFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Edgar Watson confirmed the move to the media on Wednesday during a news conference;

Moses Basena will continue as head coach alongside all his assistants.

It was agreed upon during the FUFA Executive Committee meeting.

They will remain coaches for the national team until the end of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Basena and Kajoba took over the national team after the resignation of Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic on 28th July 2017.

The duo’s initial contract was to handle the national team for 4 matches, 2 apiece in the 2018 CHAN and FIFA Qualifiers.

After the CHAN successful qualification script where Uganda ejected Rwanda, Lule and Sekagya were added onto the technical team before the Egypt ties.

Uganda edged Egypt 1-0 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers before losing by a similar margin in the return leg a week later.

Watson did not explain the basis upon the FUFA top governing body passed the duo.

What you have to know is that the deliberations at the FUFA Executive Committee meeting are not exposed but rather the resolutions.

The coaches will carry on until the current 2018 World Cup qualifiers

Tasked to comment about the status of former Uganda Cranes captain Ibrahim Ssekajja, the FUFA CEO added that New York Red Bulls Youth Coach will still be available for duty.

“We worked with Ssekajja and he will continue to work with us. Just like the rest of the coaches, Ssekajja too has his club work. So, we shall be expecting him around and he is still part of the technical team,” Watson added.

Basena and company will release the list of players for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Ghana Black Stars on 7th October 2017 at Namboole.

Uganda Cranes final match in the group will be away from home on 6th November 2017 against Congo Brazzaville.
