Unmatched displays from Walter Okas and David Muwanguzi were able to preserve Uganda A’s unbeaten record in the Africa Online Chess League.
The duo won both their games on Saturday as Uganda A bagged their seventh win of the campaign.
Fide Master Harold Wanyama lost both his games and FM Patrick Kawuma shared spoils in the second round, but in spite of the pair’s stumbling, supreme displays from Okas and Muwanguzi were able to help the East Africans beat Namibia A.
Victory kept Uganda A on top of the table with 24 points, four ahead of Nigeria B who sit second.
The West Africans bounced back from their disappointing defeat against RSA Juniors last weekend and convincingly beat Zimbabwe D as they reclaimed the second position, dislodging Zambia A who lost to Zimbabwe A.
Uganda B secured their fourth victory of the campaign after they claimed a walkover against Zambia B. The South Africans didn’t honor the fixture, and the result left them bottom of the table, while elevating Uganda B two places up to the sixth position.
Uganda C suffered yet another loss. The side captained by Ezekiel Matsiko lost 5-3 to Nigeria D and that loss dropped them down to the second last position in the league.
Nigeria A beat Namibia B, but despite their victory, they stay fifth in the league standings.
