Uganda Cranes registered their first victory at the 2017 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup with a resounding 5-1 victory during a Group B encounter played at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Friday.

Vipers Sports Club forward Milton Karisa gave the CECAFA record winners the lead after just 7 minutes. Karisa fired into the net from an acute angle after a teasing ball from the left by Muzamiru Mutyaba.

The Bright Stars got a consolation through Luak Wol in a remarkable show of fighting spirit when the lanky winger beat goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan from an acute angle.

Nsibambi scored the third goal on the half hour mark – thanks to Allan Kyambadde’s assist as the mandatory half time mark signaled with a 3-1 scoreline.

At the start of the second half, Muzamiru Mutyaba paved way for Tom Masiko in Uganda Cranes’s first change change.

On the other hand, Jimmi Arosto came off for Joseph Celistino in the 48th minute for South Sudan.

Masiko was denied a goal by the second assistant’s off side flag.

Three minutes to the hour mark, Milton Karisa was replaced by Paul Mucureezi.

Mucureezi got involved in the thick of action almost immediately and at one moment he had a one against one denied by the goalkeeper who fouled him.

Uganda’s final change witnessed Daniel Isiagi come on for the weary through effective legs of midfielder Allan Kyambadde.

Masiko got booked for a malicious tackle inside the final quarter.

Right back Nico Wakiro Wadada had a rare goal that capped the icing on the cake for Uganda in the 85th minute. Wadada combined well with Nsibambi before he powerfully finished off the goalkeeper.

Substitute Isiagi missed scoring inside the added minutes of the game.

The final result was copy and paste affair from the outcome when the two countries faced off on 22nd July 2017 (in a CHAN 2018 qualifier) which was Micho’s last game as head coach of Uganda Cranes.

Uganda is now top of Group B with the final game coming this Sunday against Ethiopia.

Burundi is second with 4 points apiece as South Sudan gets eliminated with no point in two games.

The Bright Stars will face Burundi in the final game.
