Myanmar National League 2018:
- Hantharwady United 2 – 1 Sagaing
Joseph Mbolimbo Mpande had a colourful start in the Myanmar national league with a great winning goal on his debut for Hantharwady United in their 2-1 home victory against Sagaing at the Grand Royal Stadium in Taungoo, Bago region.
The Burmese football club recovered from a goal down before finding the equalizer through Aung Nai with Mpande having a hand in the strike that leveled the game.
The former Vipers intelligent play maker then took the matters into his own hands with a perfectly curled free-kick from about 20 yards for the much celebrated winning goal.
Mpande has since disclosed his personal ambitions and targets to Kawowo Sports;
I feel so honoured to have scored my first goal in the very first match for Hantharwady United.
It gives me the confidence as I look forward scoring more and more goals.
I also thank the rest of the teammates, coaching staff and fans, this is a wonderful club.
Last season, Mpande had established a cult status at second division side City Yagon Football Club.
He had returned home for the 2017/18 and was among the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) Football Club new recruits although his move never materialized because of the delay to secure the International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
Mpande made a bold decision to return to Myanmar before he agreed terms and signed with Hantharwady United Football Club.
The Ugandan netted for as his exploits saw him score as many as 6 hat-tricks in a season and was also the league top scorer.
He has since graduated to the top tier league and embarked from where he had stopped.
Mpande and the rest of his Hantharwady United teammates have yet another uphill task when they take on defending champions, Shan United this coming Sunday.
