Standard De Liege confirmed the move in a statement released on Thursday;

Standard De Liege, Sabail and Farouk Miya have reached an agreement. Our young Ugandan offensive midfielder is until the end of this season on loan to the Azerbaijan club without purchase

Miya had been signed by Standard Liege in January 2016 after the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament in Rwanda before being unveiled officially at the club on 19th February 2016.

Prior to the tournament, he had a splendid season with Vipers Sports Club winning the national league as well as clinching the most valuable players’ gong that very season.

The former Bulo Parents, St Marys’ Kitende, KJT and Airtel Rising Stars player ascended the national team ladder since breaking to the scene when he was first played at the Uganda Cranes regional team against a select side of Western region.

After one season at Standard De Liege, Miya was loaned to Royal Excel Mouscron Peruwelz Football Club before he returned to the parent club.

He has struggled for playing time at Standard De Liege, featuring in only one match when he came on as a 90th minute substitute for Henry Uche Ago in his team’s 1-0 loss away to KAA Genk on 3rd November 2017.

Miya remains an important pillar for the Uganda Cranes.

He has previously captained the Uganda National U-23 team to the Olympic qualifiers and skippered the Uganda Cranes team at CHAN 2016 and won the 2015 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia.

Most remarkably, Miya is remembered for scoring the historic goal that sealed Uganda Cranes’ place back to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017.

At the Gabon championship, he scored Uganda’s only goal at the championship.
