The Cricket Cranes are on top of the Division 4 tournament table due to having a superior net run rate but the race for promotion to Division 3 is open for 4 other teams.

Second placed Denmark, 3rd placed Jersey and hosts Malaysia all have a chance of finishing among the top 2 who are granted promotion to Division 3.

Malaysia started like a house on fire winning their first two games but the loss to Denmark took steam out of their charge and now with a negative NRR compared to the top 3, they will need divine intervention to finish among the top 2.

Jersey – the Division 5 champions – have been measured in their approach and a win against Malaysia brought them back in contention for promotion. They however face the top side Uganda who will need to lose by a big margin to finish outside of the top 2 as the big win over Bermuda helped Cricket Cranes to gain a superior NRR and even the only loss they have suffered to Malaysia was marginal.

Denmark before meeting Uganda had had a perfect start wining three out of three and a win against Uganda would have more or less secured them promotion but the Cricket Cranes captain Roger Mukasa had other ideas by managing to defend 5 runs in the last over. The loss meant that Cricket Cranes go over the Danes to top the table and they will need to avoid losing to Vanuatu if they are finish among the top 2.

In 2016, the U19 side failed to secure a berth to the U19 World Cup despite being in a healthy position and the Cricket Cranes wouldn’t want a repeat of that dejavu.

If Cricket Cranes manage to win tomorrow, they will go straight into the final on Sunday to determine the Division 4 champions.

Denis has represented Uganda in international cricket events including the World Cup. He is currently the captain of Wanderers Cricket Club.
