Despite his earlier mishaps in the National Rally Championship, Christakis Fitidis lands a season’s comfort with a sprint championship title.

Fitidis claimed the sprint title with victory from the season ending Boxing Day Sprint at Festino Cite on Wednesday.

Navigated by Adnan Kizito, Fitidis posted the fastest times of 6 minutes, 45 seconds to end the season on a high.

“After realising that I could not fight for the NRC title, I decided to put my focus on the sprint championship.

“My only hope was on this title. I collected maximum points from each event. In this event, I only needed to finish, otherwise the title was already mine,” said Fitidis.

The Oryx Energies sponsored driver finished seventh on the NRC standings.

Meanwhile, Arthur Blick Jr put up a show to finish second at Festino with only three micro seconds behind winner Fitidis.

Moses Lumala too exhibited an impressive pace to finish in third position even after a blunder in the first run. It was Lumala’s first race since last year’s boxing day sprint.

“It was a good race. We had issues in the first run and lost a bit of time. But we managed to make it up in the second run,” he said.

Duncan Mubiru finished fourth followed by Ronald Sebuguzi in fifth while Andy Musoke and Edson Mungyereza finished sixth and seventh respectively.
