Buddo SS head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa was happy for the third place which guaranteed his side at least bronze medals.

Mugerwa also thanked his charges for the job well done although they had missed out on the successful title defence.

Our main objective was to win the title for the second time in a row. This failed when we lost in penalties during the semi-finals. We shall plan ahead. A podium finish in third place is good consolation. We shall go back and plan afresh meanwhile we also await for the East African championship in Tanzania.

During the final marred by acts of violence, St Mary’s Kitende came from a goal down to beat Jinja SS 3-1 and win the championship for the 9th time.

Tournament top scorer Lawrence Tezikya gave Jinja SS the lead on the quarter hour mark.

St Mary’s SS Kitende reacted swiftly in the closing half with three goals that won the game.

Two second half substitutes Umar Kyebatala and Najib Yiga found the opening two goals before Richard Basangwa capped the icing on the cake.

The angry fans reacted by throwing missiles and stones onto the field of play which prompted police to fire tear gas canisters in a bid to disperse them off.

Champions St Mary’s SS Kitende, runners Jinja SS and Buddo will represent Uganda at the 2019 East Africa Secondary Schools Games.
