Gangly forward George Abege Opiyo has joined Sri Lanka top football entity Upcountry Lions Sports Club.
According to the club director, Ahmed Rishard, Abege agreed a year-long deal with team based in Nawalapitiya city in the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country in South Asia.
Upcountry Lions SC is excited to welcome you to play in the brand new super 10’s league organized by the Asian Football Confederation along with the Football Federation Sri Lanka.

Upcountry Lions SC is the highest ranked football club, hosting their home games at the 5000 seater Jayathialake stadium, Nawalapitya in the central province of Sri Lanka, featuring in the Sri Lanka Dialog Champions League since the founding year of 2011.
The club’s chairman is T.K Samath with Ivan Zoric the head coach.
Abege has been a free agent since mutually parting ways with Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko Football Club.
He has previously played for two Uganda Premier League side Sports Club Victoria University and Maroons before seeking for greener pastures in Kenya.
In the Kenya Premier League, he played for a number of clubs including Sony Sugar, Nairobi City Stars, Posta Rangers, Mombasa side Bandari and lately Kariobangi Sharks.
Abege was part of Kariobangi Sharks’ team that won the SportPesa Shield last season where they represented the country in the CAF Confederation Cup before Asante Kotoko presented a tempting offer of $25,000 (About Ugx 93M).
As a 6 feet plus forward, Abege is very strong in the air, very fast, exceptional ball protection technique and has a powerful shot.
The special ability to give defenders a bloody nose with his physicality is a standout and big plus as he can also shoot with either foot to perfection.
