UCU Lady Cardinals 1-0 She Corporate
She Corporate goalkeeper Vanessa Karungi had an outing to forget after an early mistake cost her team in the slim loss to UCU Lady Cardinals on Tuesday.
Karungi failed to deal with Shadia Nankya’s free kick and spilled the ball into her goal. This eventually turned out to be the decisive moment of the game.
She Corporate who had won 1-0 against Olila High School in their opening game started on a sloppy note and conceded just five minutes after kick off.
Towering centre-back Nankya’s well taken free kick beat goalkeeper Karungi at the near post. The shot-stopper was in the right position to save but her miscalculation saw the ball cross over the line.
The team however, seemed to have recovered and made several attempts in a bid to look for an equaliser.
At the quarter hour mark, Favour Nambatya had gone through on goal but Nankya made a timely run to intercept and deny her.
Ronah Nantege too got chances on the day but failed to find the target while Noeline Namiiro who had scored against Olila was quiet in the game.
She Corporate were forced into making a substitution with defender Bridget Nabisaalu limping off and did not return for the second half. Her place was taken by Cissy Nantongo who moved to the midfield while Winnie Nabbale switched to central defence.
As the bid to find the leveller continued, She Corporate made further changes with Susan Atim and Janat Elah Thungu replacing Nantege and Ruth Penninah Akuuku respectively.
Atim nearly scored in the 70th minute but her ferocious strike kissed the upright and Thungu failed to score from the rebound.
Nantongo attempted a low drive outside the area but lacked effort behind it to go past goalkeeper Ruth Aturo.
UCU Lady Cardinals eventually held on to claim maximum points and start the tournament on a high.
The Mukono based outfit will return to action on Wednesday against Lady Doves while She Corporate will rest for two days before returning to action against Lady Doves.
