Sports at Home 2.0 Campaign:

The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) has joined the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to implement as well as promote the #HealthyAtHome 2.0 Virtual campaign.

This second edition in Uganda was officially launched at the headquarters of the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) in Lugogo, Kampala on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

The press briefing was graced by Simon Peter Komakech, the chairperson of Sports for Social Development commission – Uganda Olympic Committee, Barbara Asiimwe (secretary, Sports for Social Development commission) and Aisha Nassanga, a member of the media commission, Uganda Olympic Committee.

The #HealthyAtHome campaign 2.0 will run for a month, commencing Tuesday, February 1 to Tuesday March 1, 2022.

This campaign shall be running for the second time in Uganda, happening at a time when the Coronavirus is still vibrant and therefore people are experiencing less social interactions and exercise.

Komakech emphasized that this campaign is to help provide tips, routines, advice and encourage the populous adopt to active lifestyles.

Our #HealthyAtHome 2.0 is an 8 step work-out campaign that seeks to provide tips, routines, advice and encourage the masses to particularly adopt physically active lifestyles, as they stay healthy at home during this period of confinement.

Komakech also hinted on responsible feeding, advising on the type of foods, right portions and time of eating.

“We have to keep fit, exercise and eat well. Eating well means the consuming the right recommended foods, in the right portions at the right timing” Komakech revealed.

Komakech is also the president of the Uganda Modern-Pentathlon Association.

The modern pentathlon is an Olympic sport that comprises five different events; fencing (one-touch épée), freestyle swimming (200 m), equestrian show jumping, and a final combined event of pistol shooting and cross country running (3200 m).

At 24,000 home steads are targeted across the entire country where the work out cards will be distributed.

We shall distribute the work-out cards to over 24,000 homes all over Uganda so that the people can easily follow the guidelines during this time of exercising.

The entire public is encouraged to join this campaign and the spread the UOC messages as well as visuals about this empowering and encouraging the Ugandans to adopt exercise lifestyles from the comfort of their homes.
