Uganda Premier League 2021-2022 (Re-scheduled Game):

  • Vipers 3-0 Sports Club Villa

Vipers SC recorded a comprehensive 3-0 home win over rivals Sports Club Villa during the re-scheduled Uganda Premier League duel at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

A brace from towering forward Ceaser Lobi Manzoki and another goal by Yunus Junior Sentamu inspired the Venoms to their 10th victory in 15 games played thus far.

Right from the onset of the game, Vipers showed the intent to fight for maximum points.

Yunus Sentamu had a third-minute free-kick causing problems for the Jogoo goalkeeper Martin Ssenkooto.

The goal arrived three minutes later as a well stationed Sentamu tapped home off a Milton Karisa cut-back on the right.

SC Villa’s Greek head coach Petrous Koukouras was cautioned by referee George Olemu for protesting a referee’s decision on 18 minutes.

The visitors’ first threat at goal came in the 36th minute when Travis Mutyaba’s free-kick flew over the bar.

A minute later, Vipers missed the opportunity to double their lead. Karisa back-heeled for Yunus Sentamu who in turn back-heeled for Bright Anukani but the former Proline and KCCA midfielder curled over from close range as the first half ended 1-0.

Vipers resumed the second half with the same strategy although with more intensity.

Anukani got cautioned for rough play towards Abdallah Salim in the 57th minute before SC Villa’s right back was also booked on the hour mark.

Manzoki shot with a low drive to double Vipers’ lead in the 61st minute but the Congolese was cautioned for celebrating in front of the opposition fans.

Seven minutes later, Manzoki doubled his goal tally with a well-headed goal off a perfectly executed free-kick from Disan Galiwango.

SC Villa reacted with a swift substitution. Travis Mutyaba was rested for Ali Bayo.

Three minutes later, SC Villa called on for the second change. Pacy-cum-aggressive forward Benson Muhindo replaced a silent Salim.

Vipers’ returning stylish midfielder Frank “Zagga” Tumwesigye was introduced inside the closing 10 minutes for an injured Najib Yiga.

The final call for the hosts witnessed winger Paul Mucureezi replace the largely effective Anukani with 5 minutes to run down the clock.

Vipers held onto the lead and recorded maximum points on the chilly evening that shot them back to the summit of the league standings.

The Venoms have 33 points, one better than Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).

KCCA drew one-all with Onduparaka in a replay played at Bombo Army Military Stadium, on Thursday, 3rd February 2022.
