The 2024 All African Games in Ghana are around the corner (8th to 23rd March).

Uganda is one of the 54 countries confirmed to take part in these games with Taekwondo sport among the disciplines to be fielded.

To this effect, the Uganda Taekwondo Federation (UTF) embarked on the preparations to assemble a formidable team for the games.

Sixteen players have been engaged in non-residential drills at the Kisugu Children Sports Charity Academy (KCSCA).

These included; Christopher Mugweri (Light weight), Amina Namutosi (Fin weight), Rebecca Among (Light weight), Eunusi Akello (Feather weight), Faith Adye (Fly weight), Emma Hahumi, Farouk Ogwal (Feather weight), Oswaludo Ocira, Ivan Opio, Sam Odongo, Amina and Kulanima Wakrosi under the coach, Karim Mulwana.

Mulwana says there will be more intensified drills during the residential camp coming up.

“We shall intensify the drills in the residential camp; with focus on the offensive and defensive tactics” Mulwana stated.

Marvin Baryaruha, the president of Uganda Taekwondo Federation calls upon well-wishers to come and join the cause to help the team prepare for the All African Games.

“We have progressed well so far. National Council of Sports (NCS) will provide 8 slots. We are looking for funds to add on more players because the more players on the team, the more chances of winning medals. We therefore call upon the well-wishers to come to support the team” Baryaruha pleaded.

Seunghee Lee, the second Secretary, the Republic of Korea

The team was visited by Seunghee Lee, the second Secretary, the Republic of Korea in Uganda.

Lee notified that they have provided a coach Kwanjoo Kim to assist in polishing the team further.

“The Korea Republic remains committed to supporting Taekwondo development in Uganda. We brought in a master last year and Kwanjoo Kim (coach) will also work with the team in residential camp” Lee stated.
