Ndejje Angels secured a 64-55 victory against Livingstone in the National Basketball League encounter played at Lugogo Arena on Wednesday.
It was a tight duel in the second half that was separated in the final minutes of the game in front of finger-counted fans.
Livingstone has started life in the top tier on a low note with two losses in as many games played since clinching the Division One title.
On the back foot for the bigger part of the game, Livingstone turned up late to try and steal the game but the university side sealed the hard-fought victory.
Ndejje Angels got out of the blocks early and took charge of the game winning the quarter by nine points (18-9). The early offence from the Angels gave the game the required momentum to entertain the crowd.
Both sides improved offensively in the second quarter. The Angels widened the lead to 16 points (39-23) before the two sides went into the locker rooms.
Returning from the long break, Livingstone (0-2) was the better side imploring a pressure defence that limited Angels to only 13 points as they dropped 20 to reduce the deficit to nine points (52-43).
With 4:37 to play, the game was levelled at 53-53 before Livingstone took the lead for the first time in the game. However, Cikom Monybai’s jump shot recreated the Angels’ four-point lead with less than two minutes to play.
Despite the late fight by the newbies, the Angels (1-1) sealed off the victory by nine points (64-55) in a game that would easily go either way.
Haron Alinaitwe finished with 13 points and five assists to lead the Angels while Christian Ndibu pulled down a huge 19 rebounds.
On the other hand, Oscar Byomuhangi and Diopa Lukusa scored 13 and 12 points respectively for Livingstone.
In the earlier game, UCU Lady Canons survived UPDF Lady Tomahawks in a 68-61 victory on Wednesday night. It was the Lady Canon’s second victory in the ongoing win after beating Kampala University in the opener.
